Random Act of Kid-ness: Spirit of Detroit

Reilly Rudolph

This week’s Random Act of Kid-ness comes to us from Detroit, where 5 year old Reilly Rudolph became the youngest participant to ever win the Spirit of Detroit award from the Detroit City Council.  Reilly received the honor in recognition of a Halloween community service project she created last fall when she realized kids in the hospital probably could not go trick-or-treating. She brought painted pumpkins to sick kids at Detroit’s Children’s Hospital. Other people heard about Reilly’s project, and friends and family donated 100 pumpkins to her efforts. Reilly’s dad said:

“She knows it’s important to think outside of yourself. She just has that kind of giving heart.”

We agree with Detroit’s decision to honor Reilly with such a special award! Read more about her story here.
